Dear all,
Being diagnosed with a chronic illness at the age of 28 was an abrupt and life-altering moment. Like so many others, I had to relearn how to live in a body that no longer responded the way it once did—while navigating uncertainty, stigma, and at times, a healthcare system that seemed to speak about me, but not with me. Along that journey, I came to realize something powerful: our lived experience matters. Our voices—too often overlooked—carry essential insight, humanity, and expertise.
That belief is what gave rise to The Patient Expert Academy – PatEx Academy. We are a community of people who believe that patients should not only be consulted but fully involved at every level of healthcare—whether it’s the care journey, the development of policies, or the transformation of systems.
Our mission is to equip patient experts with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to take on these roles confidently and sustainably. That includes robust training, tailored psychological support, and strong peer networks where we learn from each other and grow together.
To be part of PatEx is to choose action over isolation, connection over silence, and co-creation over hierarchy. It means believing that change is possible—especially when driven by those with the courage to speak from experience and demand better.
